Goober Gun pop rockers to perform in December

U.K. alternative pop rock group Goober Gun will play in Vietnam in December as part of their Asian tour.

The band will bring stadium sized songs and great harmonies together with a full on, utterly engaging and energetic live performance with one show in Hanoi and two shows in HCMC including the outdoor music festival LoretoFest.

The band’s influences include Jimmy Eat World, Def Leppard, Carpark North, Cheap Trick and The Wildhearts. In the summer of 2009 Goober Gun recorded their new EP ‘1979’. Their strongest and best sounding work to date, it has caught the attention of promoters the world over, and Goober Gun headed off on a tour of Taiwan and Thailand in January 2010.

The band will perform at the Factory Bar, 11A Bao Khanh Street in Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi at 9 p.m. on December 4. Tickets are VND100,000.

In HCMC, the band will perform at the SuperSize Saigon at Vasco 74/7D Hai Ba Trung Street in District 1 at 9 p.m. on December 12 with entrance at VND100,000 including a free drink, and at LoretoFest International Music Festival at RMIT, 702 Nguyen Van Linh Parkway in District 7 at 2 p.m. on December 11. Tickets cost VND500,000 to VND650,000.

Bavarian party band comes to Hanoi Oktoberfest

A German folk music band, The Happy Bavarians, is coming to Hanoi to perform at the American Club’s Oktoberfest party September 24 and 25.

The band that hails from Munich in Germany will play at the club at 19-21 Hai Ba Trung Street, Hanoi to celebrate this year’s Oktoberfest, which is having its 200 year anniversary in Germany.

The Happy Bavarians, who dress in traditional Bavarian lederhosen, tunics and hats and play traditional tunes, will bring an authentic German flavor to the festival that is popular round the world.

The beer-fest will also be a celebration of 1000 years of Thang Long – Hanoi and the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Germany.

Guests can expect German festive flavors including Bitburger Premium Beer – the No.1 selling draught beer in Germany and other Oktoberfest traditional food such as Pretzel cake, grilled veal sausage, salted cabbage, potato salad and more. There will also be beer-drinking games and souvenirs. A Philippino band and French DJ will also play.

Kinh Bac Investment and Trading (KBT), the strategic partner of Bitburger Braugruppe GmbH – the second largest brewery group in Germany and the owner of Bitburger Brand – No.1 selling draught beer in Germany – are the main organizers of Oktoberfest Hanoi 2010, whose patron is the German embassy in Vietnam.

Co-organizer Vietnam Airlines has helped organize the event by bringing The Happy Bavarians to Hanoi while Hanoi’s Mövenpick Hotel, a member of the luxury Swiss hotel chain, has provided its best Western-cuisine chefs to cook for the festival.

Tickets are priced at VND100,000 per person, inclusive of a can of Bitburger beer.

Saint O Band performs at Night Spot

The Saint O band is back in residence at the Night Spot
The Sheraton Saigon Hotel & Towers has welcomed back the international acclaimed band Saint O to perform at Night Spot on Level 23. The band will grace the city for the seventh consecutive year performing at the hotel from Sept. 1 till Jan. 8 from Tuesdays to Sundays.

The band has recently performed in Kyrgyzstan and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Their music comprises R&B, top 40 hits, funk, hip hop, soul, Jamaican reggae and the infectious salsa beat.

Led by Canadian drummer and master percussionist Jermaine St. Omer, the band’s members consist of Ron Hull also from Canada on guitar, Michael Thornton from the U.S. on bass guitar, Lira Urmanbetova from Kyrgyzstan on keyboard and lead vocal, and the female vocalists Line Alwi and Lee Taylor.
