Vincom Center shares moment of love with couples

To welcome Valentine’s Day (Feb. 14), a romantic program named “Sharing moment of love with Vincom Center” is on at Vincom Center in HCMC’s District 1 until Feb. 14.

From now until the day for lovers arrives, come to the center for shopping or entertainment and have your photo shot with your beloved and receive gifts. After their photos are taken, customers can give their Facebook accounts to the center to have the shots posted on their Facebook wall.

From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Feb. 14, couples who come to the center will be presented a romantic gift and be invited to join in an exchange program about love at the M floor. Those who make friends through the Vincom Center Facebook will receive some special presents like heart-shaped chocolates, T-shirts, hats and pens attached with sweet messages. Additionally, with the permission from customers, Vincom Center will post their photos on its official website.

Apart from promotions, customers also receive gifts from stores at the Vincom Center and listen to love songs at the center.

Get festive for Tet at Cham cultural center

The Cham Cultural Exhibition Center in Binh Thuan Province will host a week of cultural events for Tet (Lunar New Year) from January 30 to February 8.

The highlight of the program is the exhibition of royal costumes of the Cham imperial family. See what the Cham kings, queen, princes and princess were wearing – including crowns, seals and swords and betel nut making sets. Also see costumes, musical instruments, objects and products that Cham people used in festivals.

Apart from exhibits of traditional craft villages like brocade weaving and ceramics, the center will also display farming tools such as buffalo carts, fish traps and stone jewelries plus a collection of stone statues of Aspara dancers, Genesa, Avalo Kitecvara Gods, a lion, Linga-Yoni and many documents written in Cham language.

Brocade weavers and pottery makers will demonstrate for visitors, so guests can join contests. Learn how to cook at Cham cake making displays or just enjoy a free cake.

Rija Nugar ( New Year Festival) and folk artistic performances will be on every night during the festival week.

The Cham artist troupe from Bac Binh District will perform Saranai pan-pipe, Yin-Yang couple dance, Po Jija dance, Vai Chai singing and many kinds of ethnic Cham dance and singing.

Three New Luxury Hotels For HCM City

On November 29, 2010, Saigontourist will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for its five-star Pullman Saigon Center Hotel, complete the foundation for its four-star Novotel Saigon Center Hotel and inaugurate its four-star Liberty Central Hotel.

The total investment capital for the three hotels is about US$113 million. These three hotels belong to Que Huong Liberty Joint Stock Co., under the umbrella of Saigontourist Holding Company.

Nguyen Huu Tho, general director of Saigontourist, said: “Regarding the development strategy for the period 2010-2015 and the vision for 2010, Saigontourist aims to become the biggest tourism corporation in Vietnam and the region in the fields of accommodation, tourism, gastronomy and other services. The company strives for a total turnover of over US$1 billion in 2015, making tourism a key industry of HCM City and Vietnam. The three hotels, Pullman Saigon Center, Novotel Saigon Center and Liberty Central of Que Huong Liberty Joint Stock Co., are among the tens of key investment projects of Saigontourist in HCM City.”

Pullman Saigon Center Hotel

The five-star Pullman Saigon Center Hotel, on the site of the former three-star Metropole (at 148 Tran Hung Dao St., Dist. 1), will be built with a three-level underground car park, 24 floors, with 300 bedrooms, restaurants, meeting rooms and fitness clubs. It has an investment capital of US$60 million and is due to be completed in 2013.
Pullman — a prestigious upscale five-star hotel brand of Accor group — will manage the Pullman Saigon Center Hotel. Currently, the Pullman network has 46 hotels around the world, and in the future Accor plans to develop 150 hotels under this brand.

Novotel Saigon Center Hotel

Work on Novotel Saigon Center Hotel, on the site of the former QueHuong 1 Hotel (at 165-167 Hai Ba Trung St., Dist. 1), started in April, and to date the foundation has been completed. The four-star hotel is due to commence operation in 2012, with three-level underground parking, 18 floors of hotel space, 250 bedrooms, restaurants, meeting rooms, leisure and entertainment rooms. The project’s investment capital is about US$38 million.

Liberty Central Hotel

Que Huong Liberty Co. started building Liberty Central Hotel (formerly Que Huong Liberty 6 at 177-179 Le Thanh Ton St., Dist. 1), with the design by Ong & Ong Company (Singapore) and construction by CotecCons.
In February 2010, the company put part of Liberty Central Hotel into operation, consisting of one-level underground parking, 12 floors of hotel space, 139 bedrooms and other international four-star standard services, capitalized at US$15 million.

Central Restaurant can host up to 150 guests, serving breakfast and Vietnamese specialties in a Fusion style. LIO Coffee Lounge on the ground floor is a relaxing area for welcoming guests.

To meet the demand for meetings and parties, there are the luxurious Apollo conference room hosting up to 150 people, with modern equipment and two small meeting rooms, holding from 20-40 guests.
There are two private dining rooms on the second floor and the Executive Lounge on the 11th floor serving business guests.

In addition, staff at the Business Center and Concierge are ready to answer any questions. Guests can relax with services such as spa, massage, an outdoor swimming pool on the 12th floor and a gym on the top floor.
Liberty Central Hotel is managed by Saigontourist. Pullman Saigon Center and Novotel Saigon Center hotels will be under Accor’s management.

“The combination of Saigontourist and Accor will help increase international tourists, diversify and upgrade product and service quality as well as professionalism. The cooperation between Saigontourist and Accor will also contribute to perfecting management techniques of Saigontourist in line with international standards,” Nguyen Huu Tho said.

If the wind is blowing from the right direction you can hear the gibbon’s song from your bungalow at Cat Tien National Park about five hours drive from HCMC. The sound comes from an island in the Dong Nai river not more than a kilometer from the park headquarters and accommodation.

On the island there is the Dao Tien Endangered Primate Rescue Center that specializes in rehabilitating golden cheek gibbons for release into the wild. The gibbons there sing all day long – it is a strange haunting song whose high pitch is more like a drawn out note from a keyboard synthesizer than a primate’s voice. The sound takes a little getting used to as it is quite loud.

Gibbons that live in the wild at Cat Tien National Park sing songs that declare their territory or let other gibbons know that that they are looking for a mate. The songs are normally sung in the morning and they reverberate around the jungle for miles. But at the center the gibbons sing all day long – perhaps because they are in such close quarters.

The primates are there mostly because they have been rescued or confiscated by rangers from poachers or households or petrol stations that kept them as pets or mascots. Sometimes because of the growing awareness of wildlife conservation in Vietnam households surrender them voluntarily and they wind up in the rescue center that was set up by Monkey World - Ape Rescue Centre in 2008.

To visit the center just talk to the rangers at the park headquarters and they will arrange a boat to take you across to the island. From where the boat drops you off there is about a 15 minute walk to the center – so remember to take some water. It is not really set up for tours but it’s worth visiting for an hour or two to see these beautiful but endangered primates. Some of the rangers don’t speak English well so if you want to find out more about the gibbons, one of the Western staff there may be able to help you.

If you are hoping to get to cuddle one of the cute gibbons, you will be very disappointed. The center is very strict about human contact, not even the staff are allowed to touch them. You are not even allowed to walk up to their big cages, which are set well about 20m off the path. To prepare them for the wild the gibbons are exposed to a minimum of human contact. Do you will have to be satisfied with seeing them from a distance.

Visitors must walk on the path between the large cages. There’s six or seven big cages and a special nursery for the juvenile gibbons and with a fenced off tree area so they can learn the physics of swinging through the jungle.

The island also has a semi wild area where gibbons are let go prior to being totally released into the national park. The semi wild area is bordered by the river and a special fence that the center built this year.

Monkey world set up the Endangered Asian Species Trust (E.A.S.T.) to help continue this conservation work in to the future so if you want to support the work they are doing, including rehabilitation, research and awareness raising at schools, then donate at the office or buy a T-shirt or hat.
