Happy Tet snaps could win prizes

Locals and foreign visitors can join a contest to take the best photo of Tet (Lunar New Year) activities on Nguyen Hue Flower Street and the brightly streets of Dong Khoi, Le Loi and Nguyen Hue in HCMC.

According to organizers of the Tet Saigon 2011 contest, Saigontourist Holding Company and Doanh Nhan Sai Gon magazine, contestants can send in photos of the streets taken between December 30 to this February 6.

The organizing committee will have a website displaying the pictures and will present 16 winners with prizes on February 11. First prize is VND10 million, two second prizes of VND5 million each, three third prizes of VND3 million each, and 10 consolation prizes of VND1 million each.

Entrants can send pictures to the organizing committee at 7 Tran Quoc Thao Street, District 3, HCMC or visit the website http://www.doanhnhansaigon.vn for further information.

As part of the Tet festival 2011, the city will also organize a contest to make banh tet, hold fireworks, and stage music and light shows.

Like pervious festivals, the city’s government has entrusted Saigontourist to organize the festival. Flower street will be installed on Nguyen Hue Boulevard  on Friday for it to open January 31.

Businessmen gear up for VAA caravan

Vietnam Advertising Association (VAA) will organize a three-day caravan for entrepreneurs starting November 26.

The 660km journey from HCMC to Dong Nai and Lam Dong provinces for business and charity purposes has attracted about 100 businessmen so far.

“This is a good chance to connect all VAA’s members and to collect suggestions for the upcoming term of office,” Dang Van Son, director of Phuoc Son Advertising Company, head of the organizing committee, said.

“We will also start to promote the Asian Federation of Advertising Associations (AdASIA) which will be held in Vietnam in 2013,” Son said.

On the first day of the journey, after a game in Madagui in Lam Dong Province, the caravan will meet with local leaders and businessmen and take part in the opening ceremony of a local advertising association.

The organizers said, the next day there is a charity trip to Ta Nung Commune in Lac Duong District to donate 100 bicycles to poor studious students and a roundtable on “Solutions to develop Vietnam’s advertising” at the four-star River Prince Hotel featuring presentations by Unilever, Acecook and Trung Nguyen.

A talk on “Zen and Creativeness in Advertising” will be presented on the last day with a lecture on Zen techniques conducted by a monk at Truc Lam Monastery.

Cost is VND5 million including accommodation and meals at the River Prince Hotel and charity donations.

Tickets for Miss Earth’s crowning night on sale

The organizing committee of Miss Earth 2010 has printed over 5,000 tickets for the pageant’s crowning night on December 4 at the music fountain stage at Vinpearl Land in Nha Trang.

Nguyen Cong Khe, CEO of Thanh Nien Media Corp. and head of the organizing committee of the contest, said, “We publish the tickets a month prior to the event so audiences nationwide can come.”

There are four categories of seating - VIP tickets for VND4 million, VND2 million for seats in the front rows, standard tickets VND700,000 and tickets for travelers to Vinpearl Land for the crowning night worth VND450,000. The traveler tickets come with a free dinner worth VND100,000 at the resort.

“Miss Earth pageant marks its 10th anniversary this year so we expect it will be the best ever pageant. Furthermore, this is the first time the Miss Earth contest has been organized not in the Philippines so the organizing committee has to discuss and prepare carefully to make it a success,” Ramon Monzon – CEO of the Carousel Production Inc., co-organizer of Miss Earth 2010, said in a statement,

From November 4, about 90 contestants will come to Vietnam to take part in the competition. Titles include Miss Earth, Miss Earth Air (first runner-up), Miss Earth Water (second-runner up) and Miss Earth Fire (third runner-up). The crowning night will be broadcasted live on the VTV1 and VTV4 channels of Vietnam Television, ABS, CBN and Channel Philippines.

Miss Earth 2010 is organized in Vietnam by Thanh Nien newspaper, Thanh Nien Media Corp. and Carousel Production Inc. Vietnam will continue to host the pageant in even-numbered years from 2010 until 2020.
